We will be planting one of two pilot community orchards in the City of Victoria. If you are interested in volunteering to plant, please email mila@fernwoodnrg.ca to sign up.

What can you expect from planting a fruit tree?  We cover the essentials to better prepare you for the first 5 years and beyond, from planting and early structuring to maintenance and techniques to deliver large, quality fruit.

An introduction to advanced fruit tree care in which we discuss common pest and diseases to the PNW and organic approaches to management, soil management, installation and maintenance of trellis/cordon/espalier, wire and weight training, propping and companion planting.

2:00pmTurning Your Lawn Into a Superfood Orchard by Tayler Krawczyk, Permaculture Expert – Hatchet & Seed Contracting

This presentation will focus on real-life case studies in Greater Victoria; from lawn to orchard conversions to edible rain gardens.  We’ll look at photos of the transformations and the design concepts that took these projects to completion and explore how you might do it yourself!
