Fernwood NRG and Your Privacy
Fernwood NRG is committed to maintaining your trust and confidence by keeping you informed about our work and how you fit into it. In order to connect with you on social media, improve our websites and best inform you about our programs, we do collect some information. Your right to privacy is very important to us—your email will never be sold or traded. Please read on for details.
Collecting Personal Information
The purpose of our websites and other electronic communications are to keep you informed about what’s happening in Fernwood and the wider community, and make it easy and convenient for you to sign up for our programs. When you visit our websites and access information, you are anonymous. Our analytics platform may collect your IP address to help us better serve you by providing us with information about how people interact with our websites. We do not require you to provide personal information to view our websites.
When you donate to us, sign-up for one of our programs or subscribe to our email updates, we will ask for additional information. We do this to keep in touch with you through newsletters or email, and provide you with services that may be valuable to you. We may email, phone or mail you to talk to you about making a donation.
We collect, store, and use the personal data relating to any transactions carried out between you and Fernwood NRG, such as making a donation, subscribing to our website services, email notifications and/or newsletters, and any other information that you choose to send to us. We do not ever collect or store your credit card information, that is handled by secure third party services, like PayPal.
We may sometimes use services that are cloud-based and hosted outside of Canada, where privacy laws may offer different levels of protection. Your personal information may also be subject to access by and disclosure to the local courts, law enforcement and national security authorities under the applicable foreign legislation. You may contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would prefer that your personal information not be placed on web servers outside Canada, and we will do our best to accommodate this request.
Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)
Fernwood NRG complies with CASL and we are committed to making sure you only get the electronic communications that you want from us. You may stop receiving email at any time by unsubscribing. Alternatively, you can call 250-381-1552 ext.117 or email email@example.com.
All web forms on Fernwood NRG’s websites contain express consent statements about the nature of communications a subscriber will expect to receive by entering their email address into one of our forms and how they can terminate their subscription.
Fernwood NRG always clearly identifies itself as the sender of any of its electronic messages and provides a clear opt-out link in the footer of each message.
A website cookie is a small text file that is saved on your computer by your web browser and stores information as you explore the internet. Fernwood NRG’s websites may use “cookies” to help personalize your online experience. They are widely used by most websites to help simplify your experience. One of the primary purposes of a cookie is to tell the web server that you have returned to a specific page, so you do not need to re-enter your personal information. By default, most browsers accept cookies, but you have the ability to decline them by adjusting your browser settings.
Cookies can tell us:
- Which of our websites or apps you visit and how often
(we focus our limited IT budget on the most used pages)
- How you navigate our sites, what you click on and what you share
(so we can make using our sites easier and more effective)
- Your location (some of Fernwood NRG’s programs are regional, and some are just in Fernwood, this helps get you relevant information)
- What kind of device and browser you use
(so our webpage will fit the screen you are using)
- Your IP address
(this helps you more easily navigate our website)
Almost all of the information you create when interacting with our web properties does not include any indication of who you are. The data you do share with us when you interact with us online helps us offer more content that’s relevant to you.
Some of the advertising platforms we use rely on cookies to show you ads.
Advertising on Social Media and Other Websites
We may use social media cookies to identify people who have provided contact information to us with those who are registered users of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. We may create custom audiences by matching contact information you have shared with us by matching it with users of social media platforms in order to deliver more useful and relevant advertising content to you. (See Facebook’s Custom Audiences https://www.facebook.com/business/help/341425252616329?id=2469097953376494 for more information.)
All data matching with Facebook is done in a way such that your personal information is only provided to the social media platforms if you are already a registered user of the social media platform. Your information is “hashed” by Facebook, or anonymized, before it is shared with them and any unmatched hashed data is then permanently deleted from their web servers.
You may opt-out of advertisements and custom audience matching on social media platforms by contacting us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Also, it’s worth pointing out Facebook, Twitter and Instagram also allow their users to opt-out of receiving third party advertisements.
