Our 3 to 5 year-old Care Program expands on all previous skills learned but is also supportive to new families joining us for the first time. The programs curriculum is based on the children’s developmental abilities and interests. Activities such as art, story time, and Sportball are done in smaller groups to allow children more individual time with their teachers.
Our Educators use positive role modeling and take more of a supporting role in play. We encourage the children to play together and help support them in problem solving. As the children grow, our curriculum reflects that.
We offer a kindergarten readiness program for our children who are going to be entering the school system. This program offers pre-school activities such as name recognition, letters, numbers, cutting, printing and developing fine motor skills. The Kindergarten readiness program also focuses on social and emotional development by helping the children learn about virtues such as kindness, helpfulness, respect, and compassion.
Our 3 to 5 year-old Care Program also features monthly field trips, monthly theme days, bike day, trips to community parks, and neighbourhood walks.
Wait List (3-5 year waitlist closed)
Fernwood NRG Child Care Programs are currently fully enrolled. Our 3-5 and Infant waitlist (8-18 months) is currently full. All waitlist inquiries should go through the child care programs coordinator, 250-381-1552 ext. 105.
Please note: You are not assigned a number when putting your name on the waitlist. Putting your child’s name on our waitlist does not confirm registration.
Offer of Space
Families will be offered a space according to the age of their child when the space becomes available and the developmental level of the children already enrolled. When a space becomes available, families will be notified immediately. We will book a meeting and a tour. After the meeting, families will be given 48 hours to secure their child’s spot. If we do not hear from you within 48 hours, we will move to the next family on the waitlist.
Tours of the child care centres are only offered when you family is being offered a space. A centre tour is an important step for families. They provide the chance to see the program in action and ensure that it is a good fit for your child/family. Tours also provide families with the opportunity to meet the educators and ask any questions that you may have.
