Fernwood Neighbourhood House provides programming for families, parents-to-be, seniors, youth, and the community at large. A mix of registered and drop-in programming is available including art drop-ins, support groups, and community meals.

Fernwood Neighbourhood House current offerings:

Registered:

  • Best Babies, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, A perinatal group for pregnant and postpartum people with children ages 0 – 1 years. Free, registered.

 

  • Nobody’s Perfect, Mondays, February 2 – March 16, 11:30am – 1:00pm, This community-based parenting program connects and empowers parents with children aged 0-5 to connect with other parents, talk about your experience, share your questions and concerns, and access educational resources. Limited child-minding support available for program participants. Free, registered.

 

  • Mother’s Circle, Tuesdays, January 13 – February 24, 4:00pm – 5:30pm, Our Mother’s Circle is a safe space to share your experiences and build community. Free, registered.

 

  • Beginner Guitar for Youth, Tuesdays, January 20 – April 28, 5:30pm – 6:30pm, Join our fun in this welcoming beginner guitar workshop designed especially for youth ages 10 to 18. Whether you’ve never touched a guitar or are just starting out, this is the perfect space to learn, practice, and rock out together. No experience needed! Free, registered.

 

  • Latin Folk Dance for Youth, Tuesdays, January 13 – April 28, 5:45pm – 7:15pm, Introduce your children to the richness of Mexican dance, culture, and tradition through this engaging weekly program. Participants will enjoy dance instruction in Spanish, explore traditional Mexican music, learn about cultural practices, and showcase their new skills through performances. Free, registered.

 

  • Free Bread, Bi-Weekly on Thursdays, 11:00am while supplies last, Supported by Cobs Bread, community members can pick up free bread at the Fernwood Neighbourhood House every other week.

 

  • Community Yoga, Fridays, January 16 – April 24, 10:00am – 11:00am, Join our free, community-led yoga sessions open to all levels! Each week builds on the last as we explore foundational movements, postures, and breathwork. Bring a towel, a yoga strap or belt, and a sense of curiosity. Free, registered.

Drop-In:

  • Family Drop-in, Monday – Thursday, 9:30am – 11:00am, Join this free drop-in space for parents with children age 0-5. Engage in play, connect with other parents, share your questions, and access referrals and educational resources. Drop-in, free.

 

  • Fernwood Community Meal, Mondays, 5:30pm – 6:45pm, Join us for a delicious house-cooked meal & connect with your neighbours weekly on Monday evenings. By donation, drop-in.

 

  • Intergenerational Art Drop-in, Thursdays, 3:00pm – 4:45pm, We invite folks of all ages to join this free intergenerational art drop-in! Connect, create collaborative art, and share stories. No art experience needed—just bring your imagination! Snacks and art supplies provided. Drop-in, free.

 

  • Seniors’ Corner, Fridays, 1:00pm – 2:00pm, A drop-in, seniors-led social group that meets weekly to share food and connect. Drop-in, free.

 

Special Events:

  • Welcoming Group, Volunteer group that leads initiatives to welcome new Fernwoodians to the neighbourhood. More info coming soon!

 

  • Seniors Connect: Monthly Cultural Learning, We invite Elders and seniors in our community to join us for a special series of monthly Indigenous Cultural Learning workshops facilitated by the Aunty Collective. Each session offers a space to learn, connect, and honour Indigenous cultural practices through hands-on activities such as cedar weaving, medicine bag making, drumming, and more.   • Free Breastfeeding Workshop, Wednesday, April 8, 6:00pm – 8:30pm, Hosted by our partners at La Leche League, join this free workshop on breastfeeding/chestfeeding for new parents! Held in the Studio at the Fernwood Neighbourhood House, this one-off session offers a safe space to learn, share, and connect. Interested?
