Fernwood NRG Volunteer Kitchen Helper
Description of duties
  • Help prepare and serve food for various programs at the Fernwood Community Centre including daily snacks and hot lunch program
  • Learn and implement various food preparation and cooking techniques
  • Maintain dish duties and general kitchen upkeep
  • Help with food rotation
  • Picking up food donations from community partners
Time Commitment Monday – Friday: 10:00am – 2:00pm
Option to volunteer for a minimum of 2-3 days a week are also available
Skill Requirement
  • Food Safe Certificate – Level 1
  • Kitchen experience an asset
  • Show initiative in the kitchen
  • Criminal Record Check
Training Required No kitchen experience required but is an asset. The chef, David, will train and give direction throughout the day in the kitchen.
Working Conditions  

Kitchen volunteers will help in the Fernwood Community Centre Kitchen. This position is a dynamic role, as the kitchen provides meals for many programs at the Centre.

Supervision  

Volunteer will be working together with the Fernwood Community Centre Chef, David Gillis.

Benefits  

This is a fun and social position! This volunteer will learn from an experienced chef who has 10+ years of training and practice in the restaurant industry. The role will help develop kitchen etiquette and food preparation skillset, understand large scale meal planning, food safety, and acquaint themselves with most of the staff in the Centre.

  • Opportunity to be trained with Food Safe Level 2 (after 3 months of full-time (3+days/week) of volunteering)
