Learn about the history of the Cornerstone Building while celebrating 10 years of neighbourhood ownership in a talk with Lee Herrin.
Where: Fernwood Community Centre (1240 Gladstone Avenue)
When: 7:30pm on Wednesday, September 16th
The Cornerstone Building, on the corner of Fernwood Road and Gladstone Avenue, is celebrating 10 years since it was purchased by Fernwood NRG (in August 2005). Fernwood NRG’s Executive Director, Lee Herrin, will present a slideshow retrospective detailing the lead-up to the purchase of the building (it was boarded up at the time), the neighbourhood work parties to demolish the interior of the building, and the reconstruction process that brought it to where it is today. Lee will also reflect on the importance of neighbourhood ownership of neighbourhood assets which is one of Fernwood NRG’s core principles.
If you were part of Fernwood in those days, you’ll enjoy seeing the photos of your friends and neighbours hard at work (and you’ll be amazed how much younger we all looked then!). If you weren’t part of Fernwood in 2005, then this presentation will fill in some of the neighbourhood’s history and you’ll be amazed at how far we’ve come in 10 years.
