You’re invited to the first Community Dance at FernFest on June 15, 2024 with the City of Victoria’s artist in residence

As a part of FernFest, City of Victoria Artist in Residence Kemi Craig invites you to a pop-up family dance on Saturday, June 15 between 4-7pm in the gym of Fernwood Community Centre located at 1240 Gladstone Avenue.
Kemi is a local dance artist who grew up with dance as a part of family life, playing records and dancing after dinner and at family gatherings. As a part of her residency, she would like to share this experience with local families to gather in-community and move together. Kemi will be onsite as an animator and offer a mini dance lesson at the beginning of the dance.
The dance will center the youngest members of the family first and use the music to engage various age groups so that the afternoon moves from preschool and on up through the generations! Award winning DJ Nova Jade will be there and play a mix of their own choices and a playlist facilitated by your contributions.
To build our community playlist we want to hear from you! What are your favourite songs to dance to? Please contribute to the playlist by submitting song entries to culture@victoria.ca with the subject line “Pop-up Family Dance”. You can submit songs until 4 pm on Friday, June 7.
