Tonight in Fernwood’s Belfry Theater, one Canada’s funniest backstage plays, Jitters is having its opening night. This classic comedy was written by David French in 1979. The costumes and set design certainly pay homage to the year is was created. The audience feels almost out of place without polyester bellbottoms.

The lucky few who have tickets to tonight’s sold out show will experience this play-within-a-play on the perfect night. Jitters is about a group of Canadian actors who are rehearsing for their new play, The Care and Treatment of Roses. Most have dreams of making it to Broadway but the group cannot seem to avoid a multitude of emotional and physical disasters. At points it seems like they will reach inevitable failure on their opening night.

People in the audience will not be able to resist wondering what disasters are being narrowly averted or not averted backstage at the Belfry Theater.

This amazingly written play keeps you on the edge of your seat, is very entertaining and hilarious – a definite must see.
