Spring has finally sprung in Fernwood!

As small dashes of soft pink cherry blossom buds start to appear on the tips of bare branches and the days start to grow a little longer, all the beautiful growing things in Spring Ridge Common are coming back to life. Fernwood is lucky to be home to the Spring Ridge Common, an established 20,000 square foot Permaculture and food forestry site created and maintained by volunteers over the past 20 years.

In thanks to the City of Victoria’s ‘My Great Neighbourhood Grant,’ Spring Ridge Common will be updated with a new irrigation system and new Community Tool Shed — both of which are being installed almost entirely by volunteer efforts! We have partnered with the skilled and dedicated wood-working class at Vic High to design, build, transport and install a brand-new tool shed. A big thanks to the Vic High Wood Working Class for their efforts and to the Greater Victoria Green Team who helped us dig the irrigation lines last week.  With the remaining budget, Fernwood NRG will be purchasing a few tools for the shed. However, we are also looking to our amazing community to see if there are any unused or lonely gardening tools that might be available to donate to Spring Ridge Common tool shed!

We are in search of gently-used tools to add to our tool shed, including:
