Salma is Fernwood NH’s new Director of Community Programs
My name is Salma Ihsan and I am pleased to be joining the Fernwood Neighbourhood House as the Director of Community Programs.
I first came to the island to attend UVic and quickly fell in love with this land and community. I’ve now lived on W̱SÁNEĆ and Lekwungen territories for nearly a decade. Each time I take my dog on a walk or spend time in the community garden with my wife, I am reminded of how privileged I am to live in such a beautiful place.
My passion and expertise lies in community building and supporting diverse populations. I’m proud of my work history and community involvement through which I’ve had the opportunity to teach EAL (English as an Additional Language), work alongside communities in Indigenous language revitalization, create and deliver programming for newcomers to Canada, and advocate for unhoused youth in Victoria.
