Fernwood has a strong student community – represent! We want to give back to our community of studious bookworms, offer a brief study break, and celebrate your hard-working ways by taking dinner off your “to-do” list one night a week. Fernwood Student Dinner is an opportunity for students in the wider community to come together and enjoy a delicious meal with each other, meet new (and familiar) faces, and make friends! The dinner will provide a healthy meal, host seasonal games and activities, showcase live music, grab free groceries through the Food Share Network and offer a chance to gather and meet more rad folks in the community!
Check our Facebook event (Fernwood Student Dinner Night) for meal recipes, event updates and more. Please come before 7pm if you would like to guaranteed meal – food goes quick! Seconds and left overs are handed out just after 7pm. Please bring your own reusable to-go containers to minimize waste.
Student Dinner primarily relies on sourcing surplus food that would otherwise goes to the landfill. This food is donated through community food reclamation projects including the Coalition of Neighbourhood Houses, the Food Share Network and Fernwood Helping Hands. We also receive weekly donations from amazing local businesses including Fry’s Red Wheat Bread and monthly donations from Top Soil.
All are welcome to attend the youth and student dinner night, Wednesday 6-7:30pm at the Fernwood Community Centre Gym, 1240 Gladstone Avenue.
When: Wednesdays 6-8pm
Cost: Drop-in/$5 suggested donation, no one turned away due to lack of funds
