Sometimes, it is okay to go beyond the borders of Fernwood—especially if that means, just across the street and it involves baked goods! Marta Café + Pantry opened their doors on the corner of Bay and Shakespeare just over three months ago and I’m thankful they did.

Borne out of a passion for great food, owners Chef Nikita Williams and Nutritionist Ellie Shortt brought to life this casual yet sophisticated multi-purpose spot. If you have yet to visit this French inspired locale, you can expect to find homemade menu items including baked goods, flavourful lattes, and brunch offerings that have been thoughtfully curated with beauty, flavour, and health in mind. The ambience is bright and earthy with an outdoor seating area surrounded by a budding herb garden and an indoor space that offers local artisan selections in their pantry space.

Although they are currently only open until 3:00pm Tuesday to Sunday, don’t let that stop you from ordering a glass of rotating BC Wine, or locally produced beer. With an event page on their website, I am willing to bet that evening affairs are not too far away. For more info, check them out at martacafeandpantry.com or @martacafeandpantry.
