Leaves blowing in the wind. Fenders put back on the bicycles. Little kids with big backpacks trudging to and from school. The crisp cool air inhaled through our noses is accompanied by a hint of pumpkin flavour.
For every nostalgic feeling that comes with the end of summer fun, the fall brings its own brand of excitement and things to look forward to. All around Oaklands neighbourhood the boulevard gardens are being replanted with winter crops, tomatoes and other veggies are being preserved, and fresh hops are being pulled from the vine to make some delicious brews.
For the third year in a row the Oaklands Community Association is hosting an Oktoberfest celebration. This festival celebrates all the favourite traditions of Bavaria including beer, music, food, and community. Proceeds from the event will go toward a brand new play group designed to be a supportive space for families with young children with special needs to gather, share experiences and have fun; and expanding our youth empowerment programs. Dancing to the lively sounds of Buçan Buçan and München on a delicious Bavarian meal is a great way to celebrate the changing season while supporting a worthy cause.
The Oktoberfest event is from 5-10pm on Saturday, October 3rd at the Oaklands Community Centre on Belmont Avenue. Tickets are $20 in advance by stopping by or calling the Centre at (250) 370 – 9101, or $22.19 online through Eventbrite. Tickets at the door will be $25 and the event is 19+.
