Trans Day of Snack>> Aaren Topley

On March 31, Fernwood Neighbourhood House and Oaklands Community Centre co-hosted our first Trans Day of Snack, which was a joyful afternoon created by trans people, for trans people. Held at Fernwood Neighbourhood House the event welcomed trans folks from Fernwood, Oaklands, and across the neighbourhood house network to gather, connect, and most importantly, enjoy snacks!

With sweet treats, fresh fruit, and vegan/gluten-free options, the room was full of laughter, and people excited to share connection. Trans Day of Snack originated from the Gender Reveal podcast in 2021 as a playful counterpoint to more solemn observances like Trans Day of Remembrance and Trans Day of Visibility which focuses on awareness. It centers trans joy, comfort, and care, reminding us that trans people deserve rest, indulgence, and community.

We’re grateful to everyone who came out. We also want to acknowledge that this event took place on the homelands of the Lekwungen peoples and honour the leadership of Two-Spirit and trans Indigenous people in movements for justice and care.

Thank you for making this celebration so special. We can’t wait to snack with you again next year!
