Dear neighbour,
We are sending you love in these strange times. As the COVID-19 situation develops, our first concern is the health and safety of our community.
We are focusing our efforts on providing emergency child care services to essential service workers, offering healthy, affordable food access through the Good Food Box, providing support to vulnerable families and seniors through community outreach, sharing accurate information on social media and our website, and connecting volunteers with ways to support their community.
The Fernwood Community Centre is closed to the public until further notice. At the community centre, we are offering emergency child care for essential services workers. We have so much gratitude for all our child care staff heroes who are currently caring for the children of essential service providers so they are able to continue to work in our community.
The Good Food Box is back up and running. This program provides affordable access to fresh fruit and vegetables to people across Greater Victoria and our 178 Gift of Good Food recipient families. You can order online at thegoodfoodbox.ca/home/order. If you are interested in volunteering to help keep this vital program going and are healthy and at low risk, please get in touch with info@fernwoodnrg.ca. To support this program, donate here.
We are gathering names of people willing to offer services to the vulnerable people in our community so that if/when we are alerted by any organizations or individuals, we can mobilize care quickly. If you would like to add your name, please email info@fernwoodnrg.ca.
We are actively updating a list of resources you can find here: fernwoodnrg.ca/community-resources-during-covid-19/.
Now, more than ever, we need each other. Together we can look for ways to help each other out, stay safe, and move through this together (at a safe distance).
Please consider making a donation to support our organization in continuing to be able to provide essential services to our community.
In community,
Fernwood NRG
