This innovative gathering, focused on creating local-global connections, will bring more than 200 children and professionals, families, and partners together during a 2-day forum to play, learn, innovate, and celebrate the 25th birthday of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Date: November 22 & 23, 2014 Time: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Location: Fernwood Community Centre, 1240 Gladstone AvenueThe Forum will create interactive spaces for more than 50 organizations that embody the goals of healthy living and healthy communities. By bringing together young people and the organizations that serve them, we will be integrating impact evaluation and capacity building tools into the program, such as workshops, surveys, interviews, documentation, round table discussions, and plans for further collaboration, as well as contributing to a city wide collective impact statement for children and youth in Victoria.
The Forum will be organized in four hubs:
- Participation and Culture: Engaging children in decisions that affect their lives
- Protection and Justice: Protecting children from violence, exploitation & abuse
- Education and Professional learning: Supporting the learning needs of children
- Health and Wellness: Helping children to reach their developmental potential
Innovative activities:
- Play circles: Interactive areas for children, parents and practitioners to engage in creative play
- Partner tables:Sharing local resources and practices
- Panels and presentations:feature local promising practices and inspiring international examples
- Pop-up activities: Mini-programs offered by local organizations and youth: yoga, music, cooking, puppets, dance, sports and more!Innovative activities to support planning for collaborative change
