There are many benefits to living in Victoria, and our climate is certainly one of them! The temperate weather allows the opportunity to grow food in your garden year round and the Victoria Compost Education Centre (CEC) is ready to help you do just that! Following the success of their popular annual Spring Organic Plant Sale, the CEC will be hosting their 5th annual August Organic Plant Sale. With various local organic farmers attending with their seedlings, it will be easy to get all the plants and advice you need to have a bountiful harvest beyond the fall and through the wintery months. Imagine a lush winter harvest of crisp greens and fresh herbs to add to soups, sauces, and hearty stews. The CEC hosts the August Organic Plant Sale to provide established vegetable seedlings that would have needed to be sown in June. Once your starts have been transplanted into your garden, winter growing is easy with many varieties of vegetables thriving throughout our mild winters and with less watering and maintenance to consider.

The August Organic Plant sale will be held Saturday, August 27th from 10am to 2pm at the Victoria Compost Education Centre, located at 1216 North Park Street. Customers can expect to find a wide selection of plants for fall and winter growing and harvest including kale, broccoli, cabbages, collards, arugula, cold hardy lettuces, herbs like cilantro and parsley, and many others. Join local, organic farmers from Saanich Organics, Ravensong, Metchosin Farm, and Fiddlehead Farm and discover the joys of growing winter vegetables!

The Victoria Compost Education Centre provides composting and organic gardening education to residents of the Capital Region. Staff and knowledgeable volunteers are available year-round for advice on composting, organic gardening and sustainable living tips. Visit their demonstration gardens Wednesday through Saturday 10am-4pm, or call their telephone hotline (250-386-WORM).
